  1. Some kind of security implementation obviously, but what exactly is it intended to do? Is this feature only in StrongDC++ based clients or in others as well?

Are there malicious hubs out there we need to be protected from?

  2. In case of segment downloading are partial files shared?

Yes - and it makes good sense. It is the same type of file sharing system as BitTorrent where you start sharing the files you download even before they are finished.

The partial files are obviously only shared with other people using other clients who support this feature. The users would know if they read the specifications for the client before downloading it, because it is stated there.

Solution: Use another client to download porn.

  3. For me it would make a lot of sense, as it would for other people who live in countries with attempts to exercise rigid control over 'undesirable' Internet resources and 'indecent material'.

This means that in hubs based in our country, we have to disallow 'homo sapiens mating variations revealed' films to be on the safe side. But in international hubs, these files could be shared...

I don't think most people are lazy/stingy enough to limit their sharing to the lowest required level for each individual hub.

It doesn't cost anything to share... and even if they would use it that way, then it would be up to the hubs who have a problem with this, to raise their minimum shares even higher.

  4. My connection's pretty slow - 2/0.8 MB. I think I understand the basic steps in your instructions Crise, so thanks a lot for taking the time with that, anyway.

The only thing I dont know is how to rearrange the queue.xml file. If someone knows and has the time I'd really appreciate that info too.

One more question - can I derive the full TTH of the complete file from the temp file somehow?

    Cheers.

  5. Hi

I have a number of dctmp files backed up from a failed hard drive. The files were downloaded with my then installation of PWDC++ 0.41, but when the hard drive crashed, obviously that installation disappeared.

I still have these temp files - is there any way I can make my new PWDC 0.41 installation accept and resume download of these files, or must I just trash them (please say no, some of them are rare, at over 70% and took weeks to just get to that stage:o)?

Thank you in advance and sorry if this question has been asked before - I couldnt find it when I browsed the support forum.

    Windows XP sp2.

  6. A list of the *actual* meanings of various cryptic status and error messages used in DC clients would be excellent - if that is on the agenda for ApexDC++ I really cannot wait. (Can't wait anyway)

I'd assume there is a list somewhere, since the error and status messages often are common ones used in DC++ as well - but I have not been able to find one. Does anybody else know?

  7. I agree the search function would be much greater if it supported things like OR and NOT...

When connected to lots of large hubs the search results easily become difficult to wade through trying to find what you actually want.

  8. Sorry if I am nagging, but how come the new StrongDC++ is taking so long? Difficult coding issues or too little time for BigMuscle or something else?

It has now been 2.5 months since Lee said

"The private RC11 to-do list is nearly complete. So maybe this month."

In the meantime I am using PeerWebDC++ which works fine most of the time of course, but it would be really nice with an updated client. ;)

  9. I'd actually just recommend getting a dynamic dns service, and a router that automatically updates your IP. Anytime my IP gets changed, my dyndns address changes immediately/automatically.

Yes, this is possible for some people. Not for those without a router though.

This is why having an Auto Update IP every X minutes feature included in the client would save people a lot of headache.

  10. The sense of community is important. In a good private hub with regular users (which means, active, responsible people) you can learn a lot of new things and you can help each other out with finding files. I use BitTorrent for the newest releases and DC to search for hard-to-get stuff and for the social side.

The public hubs are good for finding additional sources when using StrongDC++ based clients.

  11. Yeah, CraKTeR is right, but I think it would make more sense to have the non-randomized option as default. Those settings did cause me some grief when I started using PeerWeb as a new user, and it was a bit of a learning curve before I understood how everything came together.

I also think the Update IP every 10 minutes is a brilliant idea. 10 minutes is good because the interval should prevent the client from being down more than 10 minutes - when the ISP automatically changes the IP, the client will not be back online until the IP is changed back.
