  1. Maybe another option in XP+ is set Quota on HDD, Apex will regularly "knock", and start download only if enuf free space is available.

I also like this idea. A lot of programs use this now and would be very useful.. Perhaps a topic split (even though I know it won't be added till after version 1).

As awesome of the crash report is do you have any other information about it (like what you were doing just before it crashed, did you click something specific that sort of thing)? Also this is a known bug and being worked on. However it's always good to know extra info on it in case there is soemthing new.

  3. I don't need to limit my upload, I never use the function. I can see why some people do, but I also understand why some hubs doesn't allow Apex because of that function. Most hubs I visit doesn't allow one to limit your upload (including the one where I'm OP). That is not what Direct Connect is about for me.

True I'll agree with that but we have to protect our users now. Where I run my hub, it's increasingly hard even just to find OP's to help run it because everyone is afraid of legislation that is currently being made. As it is mine is a fairly private hub running inside of a campus lan on the residance network. But the PG list allows me to give not only myself and others in the lan as much protection as I can give them. Which I think will slowly become important for many hubs to do not that far into the future. So I'm voting yes to this feature for although I may not totally agree with it in some ways I think it's a more important step to protect the community.

  4. I would also like to apply to the position. I've op'd my campus Gaming clan's forum for just about a year, as well as run the campus Hub. I know lots about DC and Was very active in the forums up to end of May. I'm now approaching school time of year again and as such will have much more time to spend on the forums (ironic but I work a lot in the summer more then I do in the school year). I have prgramming experiance (limited in C and C++ but lots in Java) and have been using Apex since V 0.2)

  5. what,

    sorry dont understand your response

what i mean is that User Account Control (UAC) blocks ALL things in protected folders, progs, windows those thingys :(

so what does apex do ?

As far as I know UAC does not effect Apex at all, I've been using the two together since feburary and have had 0 complications. Not many folders are protected fully anyway. Also are you running a standard account or an administrator account??

  6. Today we release ApexDC++ 1.0.0 Final and PeerWeb DC++ 1.0 Final. It's time to show how much we appreciate our users and release both stable releases earlier than we planned.

Remember to post feedback on both releases in the announcement topic and we will do our best to accommodate them. We haven't had time to update the changelog page, so please download the product and use it yourself. We have included a few easter eggs in the PeerWeb DC++ 1.0 release, including lots of innovative features. In the mean time spread the word about the two releases.

    ApexDC++ 1.0.0: Installer | Binary | Source

    PeerWeb DC++ 1.0: Binary | Source

    Enjoy. :)

    >.< Should of known better on a side note that install ate all my favourites ;)

  7. Hi everyone,

I'm not sure about the settings here in this option, but I do not want people to download from me if they are only getting 5kb/s. I have enabled this option in the LIMITS, but it does not seem to work, or either I'm not selecting the right options. Here is how I have it:

Enable slow download disconnecting - this box is checked

When segmenting downloading only - this box is not checked

Disconnect download if speed is below - 5kb/s

    More than - 5 seconds

And whole file speed exceeds - 0

And file size is more than - 0

Remove user from queue if speed is below - 5kb/s

Well you probally havent turned it on  and I don't say that to be rude. There is a button in the main gui that turns limits on and off, and isn't perhaps intuiative to notice it. I've attached a screen shot with the button circled.

    limitbutton.jpg

It seems I have it setup correctly, since I do not want people downloading if they can't have a 5kb/s download speed. I'm not sure about the "and whole file speed exceeds" settings. Can someone explain that option?

As for this, this means if your downloading from several sources (so several people) and the total file speed is above that number and is below what ever other settings you have set they are disconnected. That way, if you have no sources, that person will still conenct to you and you will download from them intill you have sources with better speeds.

    Hope this helps

  8. Even with it disabled, it'll still download random chunks rather than the first chunk or the file first.

    so... with this

    Example.jpg

doesn't actually disable it...? though when your downloading from one source if it's downloading in chucks it still downloads from 1st peice to last peice... because I can stream video as I download from Apex for example (internal private lan speeds up to at least 500kb/s is why I can stream).

  9. Can sameone explain a little bit clearer? Firstly, where can I get apexdc linux? In sourceforge I can not find apex for linux, only for windows, and in cvs, I do not see download button

As far as I know there is only cvs access for apexdc linux

  10. Well, generally for new parts I've read that it is better for them to run and run, only a screen-saver or setting to turn off the monitor is reasonable. A HDD for example wears much more from spin ups than from constant rotation.

    /off

I know but being a laptop I have to be careful with cooling issues too. But as a general rule I don't shut it off unless Im' between locations.

  11. ...however, if you open Apex w/o any hubs and transfers active, to ensure a fast and safe exit, and do your settings, then IMMEDIATELY close the program and open it again, it should load the settings. And even if you have the issue again, it should return to this point... Please check and let us know if this helps...

Worked fine it seems I tested that and made my computer sleep etc. Though this is only a stop gap mesure as it if my share changes a lot I'll have the same issue again (I cycle stuff through my shares, not to mention when I download non hub files). Which is why among other reason I just don't let my laptop sleep lol.

  12. Do not ask me for coding! :)

    lol fair enough.

*pokes Crise and Lee on the shoulder* hehe.

And afaik Apex saves only on exit, but wait for a confirmation... I guess smth goes wrong when moving settings info from RAM to HDD.

Ya that's my assumption, every works fine as long as I shut Apex down before it goes to sleep. So it's only when Vista is force closing programs or suspending them. :)

  13. Thank You Very Much For Your Posting. I am not shure about save. I could think of the solution and make graphic for that. I dont care about the time. Just want to help developers to build better client... For example I kick in one hub for clients like Strong, Zion, Zk and other two which I wont mention (thats the way owner wants) And I enter into that box st|z|pw|ap and TAG in listing. That way I get all users which have that clients and I can easily kick them all at once. If I could have that one saved - I would do my job much better and faster...

    Regards to all posters...

Hmm I would think, though this could be useful perhaps for non-op's, that this would be in turn a better option for the ApexOP client. As to how to save them. I think a small table that in the file-->settings-->experts(perhaps?) would be a good place to input them. Alternatively The ApexOP if it has a lua scripting could have a plug in where it searches all the said users tags and even auto kicks for your tags that you have listed. Anyway just an idea.

  14. Yep, but I haven't tested how stable is the binding to any of the *.exes, and since some users (pls do not take it to heart, as a support member I must expect the worst :D ) just put the Apex folder on the Desktop and browse each time in it to start... all could happen. If you do not do it this way, another person could, and then say: "yeah, true, settings lost". And these are two issues...

no offense taken lol I do enough comp support myself and know what some people do sometimes lol. No it's installed to the default apex folder so in my case

C:\Program Files\ApexDC and I start it through either a short cut on my desktop or in the start menu (yes both target files are identical). Also their is no 2nd exe in my case. However do you know when Apex saves stuff on close or at random intervals? I'd imagine it should do both... or if you know where it's located in the code roughly I could go find it.

    Edit::

It seems to more so only happen when my computer goes to sleep (which I've now disabled since well it annoys me anyway). However I'll be glad to help further explore this with you guys if you want. I suspect it has to do with how vista suspends it's programs and isn't allowing or tiping off Apex, to when it goes to sleep, that Apex can save it's settings.

  15. The only small issue in the installer I have found is that it places a second *.exe in \Setting. Is it possible this second *.exe to become the "working" one, messing up directories?

That would make sense however that'd only be the case if both .exe were running at the same time and since my short cuts point only to one it would avoid said issue.

  16. could be some bug in the installer, i dunno to be honest, i cant reproduce your problem.

I've tried playing around different things to no avail. It seems to do it as well when my laptop goes to "sleep". Can someone tell me when Apex saves it settings? I think it's when the program closes?

  17. Not really TYRRAM, 'Defender' on vista does nothing to it. Aside from UAC, which can be turned off, there is no security bugs or incompatibilities.

Some Anti-Virus software that have advanced heuristics and riskware detection tools can cause trouble to many applications not just DC.

I should mention (my bad) that that UAC is turned off on mine (finds it annoying personnally). other than that I'm running Vista Ultimate.

    did you use an installer?

I'll assume you mean the apex installer, and yes I did. I suppose I could try reinstalling it via binary but I was being lazy to be honest.

  18. Everytime I restart Vista, which I've recently upgraded too. Apex forces me to reset all my settings, which it seems are not saving upon exit and I have to rehash my entire share (sorta annoying with a 300 gig share).

    Any ideas?

  19. I thought that too, that software shouldn't be able to do it alone. I don't do any online gaming, and have no probs with anything else (webpages with lots of images, DLing from a site, file transfers from mirc are perfect, etc.). Also, I tried going active, and it worked fine the first time, but the next time it hung on 'Connecting' for the downloads. I tweaked the various settings (in Apex and my router) in various combinations to no avail. As for the virus, I kinda doubt that too, a brand new install of Vista on a brand new HD ruled that out for me, also the fact that it's only Apex that disables the connection.

    This one's a tough one! :P

The more you describe this the more it sounds ISP related, I would suggest if you are able to go to this DC hub::

    techgeeks.geekgalaxy.com:1411

and speak to one of the Apex Admins on there live so that they can see what is going on from their side as well.

on a side note... And I'm looking to Crise, Lee on this one I guess is how is Apex running on vista in general (aka fully supported?)?

I know you said it's happened in both XP and now Vista... but going active may have fixed it in XP normally so I'm not sure if its completly compatwith Vista. So ya, go to the techgeeks hub and chat with one of the Apex admins, they are really quite helpful there and might be able to aide in getting you online.
