Virtual LAN

3 posts in this topic

Hi,

I was wondering in the story about Virtual lan's

I am running a test hub on a virtual lan, it is completely unaccessible unless the user has logmein hamachi application, and every communication is encrypted and untraceable...

i was wondering if a virtual lan system could be created inside of dc++ applications...

im sorry if i'm very wayyy off but this virtual lan stuff rocks so much !

example:

this user is NOT on my local are network, he is in my virtual lan

A virtual LAN, commonly known as a VLAN, is a group of hosts with a common set of requirements that communicate as if they were attached to the same wire, regardless of their physical location. A VLAN has the same attributes as a physical LAN, but it allows for end stations to be grouped together even if they are not located on the same LAN segment. Network reconfiguration can be done through software instead of physically relocating devices. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_LAN

IN a way, TLS will enable this, TLS is NOT the same as VLAN or VPN but it has similar principle's.

Can VLAN be used in DC? No! Not without a modular alteration, however, TLS is in the process of being integrated and will carry many of the same benefits.

Can you explain what you mean by a VLAN cannot be used in DC?

I am looking for a solution where for example I have Hamachi installed on computer 1 within a certain physical network and I have Hamachi installed on computer 2 out of network. I would like to use Apex from the out of network computer (computer 2) to access a DC hub limited to access from the physical network which computer 1 is on.
