  1. Why would you need to control your media player from within another application anyway? :S Personally I can't see the appeal.

Ditto. If i want to control my media player, I'll use my media player. But then, I have a lot of screen space and don't maximise things, so I suppose I'm unusual. What about tray icons? :crying:

  2. Thanks guys. It's been a bit of a rough ride to get here, but hopefully we're set now.

Lee's on holiday for a couple of weeks so I don't expect he'll be online, but the rest of the staff will be no doubt. And yes, I know that lots of you won't know who the heck I am, I stay in the background most of the time :)

  3. I mean that program is a freeware, only thing you can expect is donation. Mods won't take your bread, so why bother about them?

I meant that making a mod of opensource program you are forced to make it opensource too. This means, that you may check source-code of any mod and take good idea to your project.

Hey, cvs is just a source code. If a user can compile it, he would also be able to handle it. Many projects offers even nightly builds, for those who are on the edge of developing process. They put a disclaimer about stability and also have a place to report bugs from new builds. Large community with lots of testers might help in improving of functionality and stability. Why do you think betas of new Vista are so prevalent?

Oh, come on! There is no way you can compare a closed-source operating system created by an enormous multi-national corporation with many thousands of employees with a small open-source project with a development team whose numbers can be counted on your fingers.

  4. Forcing people who are too curious to pay for betas (become subscribers)? Or to knock down concurents ("opensource concurents" sounds... hm... ridiculous?) by disallowing them to use your latest code? I can imagine a couple of other reasons...

Our development is behind closed doors because we have such a small team. The source code for releases is readily available.

And who says anything about 'forcing' them? We need to pay for costs somehow, and if users are prepared to donate in return for access to pre-release builds, why shouldn't we do so?

  5. To be honest softpedia don't really check their client they mostly copy sites, we are one of those they copy Proof :) and we really do check our apps.

Yes your app right now is clean and added to klitetools.com (kool lite tools)

Good luck with the project and as long as you keep it clean you can count on us :)

Just to note, the version number is 0.1.0, not 0.1.0 Preview 1. The Preview 1 should be encased in parentheses, if included at all :)

  6. we can't make the icons to support every single xp theme there is :D

This is true, but I do think we should consider making the 'New PM' icon lighter, perhaps similar to the greeny one used on the site and in the installer? It's not that easy to notice the current one even with a light theme (for example the Windows Classic which I use).

  7. Erm...well I like the layout (how surprising :)) but the top font is too big in comparison IMO, plus it has no shadow on it so it doesn't fit with the othe bit.

  8. Indeed, use 'EDIT:' or 'Edit:' before what you're putting to show that it was an afterthought - if you put it in italics, people think it's more important than the rest of the post.

  9. What did you say..? They are way behind in technology. I don't care about UI and control system. I care about quality of the player. And the iPod design isen't really that good either. Why would you buy an overpriced player you could get for half the price.?

They are way behind in technology? In what way? Do you see anything that can match the iPod range's capabilities in the same size units? No, I didn't think so.

I had problems when I had an iPod Mini, I'll admit that. But, it was one of the first production run so I wasn't too bothered - the replacement which I received from Apple was absolutely fine.

You don't care about control system? Well...I guess that's personal preference, but I find that if it's not quick and easy for me to access my music, using the player becomes a chore and I end up not using it at all.

Your price point is a load of twaddle. The 4GB Nano is cheaper than Samsung, iAudio and iRiver's 2GB players. The 30GB iPod is cheaper than the 30GB Creative Zen Vision:M and the 30GB iAudio X5.

I could go on, but I have better things to do.

  10. The whole anti-iPod thing is a load of media hype. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, on the market that can beat the iPods in usability terms. Apple's UI and control system is way beyond anything that any other manufacturer uses.

Sure, some have battery problems, and yeah they cost more than rivals. Does that make them shit? No.

  11. I have just finished moving ApexDC.net to a new server which is also hosting our two big affiliates, PeerWeb and neXTPeer. This is as much a case of consolidating costs and ease of configuration as anything else - regular visitors will know that we had no problems with our previous hosting. However, the server will likely only ever be under light loads, so everything should be quick!

Anyway, that's the cause for the (fairly short) downtime today. Everything should be working properly on the forums, but if you find a problem please let me know and I'll be on it ASAP. Chances are there are a couple of options which need changing around, so don't be surprised if things aren't totally smooth over the next few days. I have also incorporated ApexDC.net into PeerWeb.info, which keeps a track of a number of servers and acts as a way for staff to contact users in case of hosting problems (though hopefully we shall experience no more of those!).

Work continues on the planning and preparation for ApexDC++, though we are limited in what we can do until StrongDC++ RC11 is released. Big Muscle is doing his best to ensure that RC11 is stable, so we think it'll worth the wait! However, you can expect some image concepts for the new client to be knocking around pretty soon, so those who keep checking back will be rewarded!
