Apex failed to create port mappings

7 posts in this topic

Hi,

My operating system is XP Home Edition (updated) and my version of Apex is 1.21. I have the Winfows Firewall and Siemens Router SL2-141

After installing ApexDC, when I tried to open the program there appeared the following message: " Failed to create port mappings. Setup your NAT yourself". I cliked OK, whereupon ApexDC opened. I clicked on File > Setting and saw no TCP or UDP nubers (whether I sellected "Firewall with UPnP", "Firewall with manual port forwarding" or "Direct connection".

I have no idea how to "setup my NAT". Anyway, I tried to solve the problem by entering the TCP and UDP numbers I saw in one of my friends ApexDC program (that friend also has the Windows Firewall and the same Router I have got). Next, I opened those port numbers in my Windows Firewal and in My Siemens Router. Unfortunatly, it didn't help - meaning I am unable to find any file whatsoever (not even a single setup.exe file).

Please help me to solve the above mentioned problem.

Thanks

This guide should help you get into active mode. You need to login to your router's settings page and open the ports there. Use portforward.com to help you.If you're unable to open the ports yourself, get your friend to (he must have correctly opened them on the same router as you otherwise he wouldn't be able to download).

You can also select Firewalled (Passive) mode, but you will limit yourself to how many users you can download off.

Hi Lee and thanks for your prompt response.

Meanwhile, with the help of my internet service provider, I selected in my router settings the so called DMZ Host, so that - as far as my router is concerned - I don't have to open any ports. However, I still had to open ports in the Windows Firewall and I did so , however it didn't help: I am still getting that "Failed to create port mappings. Setup your NAT yourself" notice. Could you, please, guide me how "to setup my NAT". In your response you mentioned a guide which should help me get into active mode, however, when I clicked on that word guide I came to something entirely else. Could you please send me the link to that guide.

Thanks

My apologies, here is the correct link. I would suggest restarting your router with the new settings, but maybe the DMZ feature didn't work correctly. You should open the specific ports that you've entered into the three port areas (TCP, UDP, TLS) and open those up in your router.

It should be labelled port fowarding or something similar in your router settings. If you use portfoward.com and select your router, it will tell you how to do this.

Hi Lee,

I appologize for my late response. I was absent for a while.

With yor help and the help of the link you sent me I have maanaged to solve the problem: In the "Settings" of my Apex I have changed the TCP and UDP port numbers by other numbers randomally chosen by me. (Of course, I opened said new port numbers in the Windows firewall and in the Router). It worked for a few days, however then I got again the "Failed to create...." message. Hence, I changed again the port numbers and now it works again. I assume that happenes to other Apex users too.

Thanks a lot
