  1. Design a new forum header!

Should target 1024*768 users in my opinion. I never go above 850-950 pixels wide when making a page though. If I'm including a banner I never bother assuming a page's width to be dynamic, only if it's a small logo. If you take into account that the higher the resolution of someones monitor, the less likely they are to maximise their browser. Having a page which dynamically adjusts its width isn't too important, Opera has the "fit to width" option for pages that are too wide. I'll have a go at making a logo if you like, but not one for re sizable widths, a smallish logo if you like, but not a banner for different widths. You just need to decide if you want a banner or a fairly small logo. I edited the logo on the IP.Board Pro skin, if you want something that sort of size then we can make something, just unrealistic to expect a banner which looks good at multiple widths.
  2. List of requests

You can use the share skiplist to exclude certain filetypes etc. from people shared. Adding a warning when adding a root drive (perhaps just some red text in the existing virtual folder name dialogue) or certain folders (eg. "Windows" and "Program Files") telling the user they may be able to share files which they should not. It's a low priority feature, but should also not take too long.
  3. How do I disable update notifications?

As Lee recommended, we don't suggest that you disable this feature, especially as we are nearing a final/stable release of version 1. However, if you still want to disable it then go to Fille --> Settings --> Advanced and tick the box for "Don't announce new ApexDC++ versions". Screenshot included below:
  4. [BUG][0.4.0-1.0.0] There is not enough space on disk

Is your temp directory still on a FAT32 partition?
  5. [BUG][0.4.0-1.0.0] There is not enough space on disk

It's almost certainly the FAT32 filesystem limitation which is causing this. Any widely used partition manager should be able to convert your filesystem, such as Partition Magic (which isn't compatible with Vista by the way). NOTE: Converting filesystem can (but probably won't) cause problems, such as loss of data.
  6. Easy Language Selection Option

Makes the English "antidisestablishmentarianism" ("the belief which opposes removing the tie between church and state") small in comparision, which is usually known as the longest word, but "Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" (AKA black lung disease) is significantly longer... But still falls short.
  7. Easy Language Selection Option

How long after a release do we wait until releasing this larger installer with language files? Or instead of waiting a certain amount of time should we wait until certain languages have been translated? If so, which languages should we wait for? We have next to no control over the translations, they get updated by members of the community who do it for free to help others, and they do it in their own time, which could be one week, could be never. What we need to do is let the installer optionally download extras which the user wants, such as emoticon packs and language files. If we could get the installer to work out which language were availble for download from a file on the internet then it would be good. We could simply update that file as new languages (or emoticon packs) were added and they'd become availble in the installer without us updating it. Whether this is possible depends on the installer software we use, but it is worth looking into and if it is possible it's definitely worth adding for version 1 final. (Seeing as it would only be an update to the installer not the client itself.)
  8. Easy Language Selection Option

Seeing as the translation files are very small we could really package them with the installer and allow the user to set a language pack during install, too. The issue with this is that we are an open source project, we're not paying people to do the translations and for them to installed with the installer we would need copies of the translation files before a release, which just isn't practical as not all translators are beta testers and as such don't have access to the program to complete translations. Getting hold of a language file and then adding it is definitely something that can be worked on, but the current situation is acceptable. A first user screen is something which we should really think about adding, with useful links to help people understand this new program they've opened.
  9. Fastest Download Speed?

Number of megabits times 120 is about the largest number of kilobytes I've seen out of (cable) connections. On 4mbit 480 is about the max I reach, 530kB/s on a 5mbit connection isn't too bad, but if it's cable then I would expect it a little higher.

Hmm, I'm going to have to try The Gimp again. I learnt image manipulation etc. in The Gimp before I touched Photoshop, but I doubt it has all the features I'm become used to in Photoshop now. I have a feeling that Photoshop 7 running in WINE may even be more feature fall then The Gimp.

    I'm obviously blind, edited. :)

Can I ask what you use AMIP for? All the uses I have had for it in the past are no longer needed with foobar.
  13. Easy Language Selection Option

Assuming Apex remembers the location that you open your language files from, I'm surprised people want this. It'd still only accessible from the same place in the Settings? Maybe if it made downloading of language files then it'd help, but this feature is just requesting that Apex detects which language files are installed and presents them in a list for the user... Surely opening browse and selecting the file is just as quick if Apex remembers the directory.
  14. Released: ApexDC++ 1.0.0 Beta 4

I don't believe there's a lot of room for improvement there, unfortunately.

With the English language there's always more to learn. Hungarian may be harder to get to a point where you can have proper conversations, but English is harder to master due to the sheer amount of words there are, and it's not too strict, most grammatical errors are widely accepted. Also there's so many little nonsensical little paradoxes in the English language, little random quirks that you just to except and try to understand. So many words don't make sense as they are constructed from other words yet seem to have nothing to do with it. English muffins are not from England, and neither are French fries from France, just as there is no egg in eggplant or pine (or apple) in a pineapple. These are little things that can be remembered, but it all adds up. Plurals also are not consistent some words change (tooth to teeth) twice others simply add an S. We have a huge vocabulary yet also have multiple (but rather different) meanings for the same word. "The dove dove down", "I had to subject the subject to a series of tests", "I will not object to the object". So many phrases which can be used which at first I would assume can be rather confusing. Other grammar may be simple but once you start to really use the English language there are so many random little things which you have to learn, there are so many exceptions to any spelling rule you learn. English is easy to get started with but I imagine that these little things which must be understood mean that you really have to actively use the language a lot to pick them up/understand them. A lot of the English language seems illogical to me, and when I've studied other languages they seem to stick to their rules a lot more, at the same time I can't imagine that any other language allows for the complexity of explanations that English allows, there are so many words and they mean that you really communicate what you mean quite well. The thing which would really make Hungarian harder to learn is that there are less facilities (in most of the world at least) which offer courses on the language.

The largest dictionary in the world is the Oxford English Dictionary with about 1.5 million entries. No other dictionary even come close in terms of word count. However I agree that the words in a dictionary don't cover all dialects etc. but you must remember how widely spoken English is across the globe. English is the primary language in Britain, America, Canada, Australia and more. There are many different forms of English in each of these places, I can think of many different ones in England alone. Add this to the fact that many people speak broken English, or as a second language... Lots and lots more different versions of the language. English has the largest vocabulary of any language as far as I'm aware.
  17. Partial sharing, that is sharing files which you are downloading cannot be disabled. It means that if someone leeches and doesn't share anything they will at least be able to upload something. It also removes the whole multisourcing damages the network argument as you can even share something before it's completed meaning you can share the content a lot quicker and in fact provide more sources for a file rather than just removing them. Also I can see no reason why you would need to disable this, saying you want to stop bad content spreading is not a reason. Why would you be downloading bad content?
  18. Well, restart explorer and/or the desktop window manager, one of those processes may be causing it. As previously asked, does this ever happen in other applications?
  19. Your browser of choice

I hope you're encouraging the use of copyrighted material Seeker. We actively discourage that. For most people the price of Vista probably isn't worth it. I wouldn't pay £££s for an OS which isn't that much better than XP. Vista is just like 2000 to XP than 98 to 2000. I have dual core and 2GB of RAM and it runs fine. However, with 1GB of RAM I did notice that games that would have managed with 1GB on XP needed a little more. If you're single core with 512MB of RAM then it's probably not worth upgrading. However, if you've spend money to build a reasonable spec PC then you may as well get some use out of it. Seeker's description of it being XP on steriods is fairly accurate.
  20. Easy Language Selection Option

Considering the English language has the largest vocabulary of any language, there's bound to some words which don't translate well into other languages, then again I doubt many are used in ApexDC++. If a language file available in your native language is well written and is well readable then I would assume it's worth having.

Cannibal Corpse arn't too bad, listen to Anal Cunt (colour changed because the band name might offend ). Their songs are reallyhard to understand, but one or two are quite funny if you read the lyrics. Anyway, on topic... Total Commander users should switch to Directory Opus.

    Sounds good. :)
  23. Your browser of choice

I can use Linux but a few programs are keeping me on Windoz for the moment. Vista updating is superior to XP's. And compiz/beryl/compiz fusion is nice, but has some issues, plus I don't mind Windows using 30MB or so extra of my RAM. I just bought a gig of RAM a few weeks ago, may as well use it. Funnily enough I've even re-installed the family PC with Ubuntu and have to provide supportfor it to my family. :)

Oh, sometimes if you don't install it right (for foobar at least) it doesn't detect which song is playing. Either way, the programs doing a pretty simple job, so whatever works for you is good. :D
  25. Fastest Download Speed?

Heh, considering people with Be broadband at upto 24mbit have been getting similar speeds to you, you're not doing too badly. I've been on the same ISP since I first got broadband and that was 150kbit/s (yes, 0.15 mbit), calling that broadband was the real false advertising. :D
