What I mean by essential (most of the time) is now much people who use the feature.... how much demand there is for it. There time which would be needed to put into the feature I guess also effects it, but not by much (simlpy meaning if a feature requires massive changes to the client, it probably won't happen). Essential stuff is stuff that lots of users may want and use basically. There is so much stuff to add (even suggested just since the Priview Release went public.) that you have to give other more "essential" stuff higher priority. I can only speak for myself, and what I mean when you see me use the term. I hope that makes sense, Greg P.S. I already stated my opinions regarding the feature, nothing really new to say in relation to your post about this feautre request.

These features which are of no use to them and can't be used on your hub? Why would you prefer to deny them access to something which they can't use? This is targetted mainly as a sharing client, but semi-unofficially, it's jsut refered to as the regular version or whatever. To me, that means that it having a few (because it's not many - or all the ones I would like in the OP client) OP based features is not a problem. It also means the people who just OP on one hub don't have to run seperate clients. U ntil the OP client is released at least, I don't feel OP-related fetures should be removed, if ever.

Haha, ask again in a few months when we may be more open minded about it? I can't imagine it happening for the moment. Also, if this was to be added, you;d have to make it so you can only remove stuff from your default share, to ensure that it is not used to the advantage of leechers. You could have a list where you can tick or untick the folders you ahve ad ded via the sharing menu within the settings..... GUI-wise I think that would be sound (availble via the favorite hub options obviously), however, it's not happening anyway. :(
-
So what you want is a skip list on a per hub basis. Maybe this a nice idea.... but how easy would it be, this basically is the seperate share per hub request in its early forms if you see what I mean. There are limitations to the client... maybe this is one of them?
-
Yes, but I've only ever seen that option in the right-click menu of users on hubs where I am an OP, not on public hubs. If you just used this f eature to help you OP better than fine, but that doesn't seem like the motivation behind the request? If that is the case, then I'm sure the Get user responces option msut have been not incldued with hubs where you ar enot an OP for a reason? :(

What to do about anal rententive mininazi admins?
Greg replied to madsere's topic in Client Discussion
I know, it's terrible. This is the trouble the client, and most modifications of DC++ have to face. By simply being informative and telling a hub that you a re limiting rather than just hiding it, we are candidates for a kick. Unfortunatly there is no real solution to these kind of people, I guess we just hope as the program becomes more popular, people will realise that we are trying to produce a great sharing client, that shouldn't be kicked on entry from hubs. Hopefully it may change in time, but we cannot change this attitude easily, I'm sorry I can't give you a better answer than that. -
Just checked, no, it's not workin, I can imagine this should be fairly simple to sort? I'd like to see /c act like /clear. :(
-
Hehe, it's just if I get too many results that this can be useful. It's quicker than re-searching all the hubs you are on too.
-
Indeed, just a shame about the length of the ban. Oh well, it's nothing major, as you say.
-
Haign no share, and havign a different share, are two very different things. It's not sharing anything different, it's just hiding it all togther. The hide share feature will be optional I would assume, you won't be forced to hide your share.

i believe a guide was created for PWDC++ on how to create a DynDNS address or something by our member Satan. Hopefully you'll be seeing some Guides soon. We've only just got ApexDC++ Preview 1 out, and it takes a little bit of time to ensure all the guides are up to scratch.
-
Because PWDC++ was never targetted as an OP client, although it includes quite a few features which OPs may make use of, ApexDC++ should include most of if not all of the features PWDC++ had, so I don;t see why you shouldn;t be able to replace PWDC++ with it for OP purposes. Also, if you would like support with PWDC++, TechGeeks Online still offers support for the client for the time being, this is generally quicker, but there's not always someone aroudn there. You ahve to understand that the PWDC++ client is no longer being developed, and we know it has bugs etc, and especially now that ApexDC++ Preview 1 is out, we cannot support PWDC++ forever. I hope that is acceptable, Greg

I'm sorry datadyne, but it will solved as soon a spossible, really. It's late for the person hsoitng the hub - they can't be around 24 hours a day unfortunatly. Considering how long we've waited for ApexDC++, this is nothing.
-
heh, if I'm on a load of public hub (like never anymore but still) you foten find you get way too many search results, and maybe if you jsut changed your search you could fix that.... but surely it's better to just refine the search and apply more filters client-side then spam all the hubs you on with my searches? I used it a few times, but as I say, it's not essential.
-
Hehe, this kind of stuff isn't hard to include, so if there's demand for any new ones, I guess they should be included. I'll write a gudie for this soemtime. (No, /help is not good enough for me.)

@3 Hmm, I see what you mean about the tab completion now. If Crise thinks it's worth doing, and the source for a client that already does this is availble and easy to put this into ApexDC++ then i guess it will happen. Although I'm not sure there would be much demand for it to be honest. @4 Well ok, I don;t think we can anywhere enar prioritise that, which seems to be ok. @5 I see what you mean, and that would be useful to a lot of people (and possible me), but a lot of people are already sharing the folders to where they download and obviously can't have DCTMP files there. Personally I just have my default Downloads folder on the same drive as my temp folder. Sorry if I've not read any of what you've posted as well as I should have, but it's late and I'm tired so I'll just wait until tomorrow. Hopefully Crise will get a chance to look at this and give his opinions on these requests.
-
Indeed it would, if it's going to be easy to code. Would it cause the client to hange for a little bit though?
-
Unfortunatly, as Crise previously mentioned, he looked into this and considered it to be to much work. There's way too many things for him to do already, so this is understandable. I'd like it myself, maybe in future?
-
Hmm, I can see the use for this, you'd just need default, and then to override with yes or no. I can't see any major disadvantages to this other than maybe cluttering the hub favorites dialog. I think I might use it... It's nothing essential though.
-
Remember, this is not the OP client. An OP client will be released, but that will be seperate and is not currently near release.
-
It's not palnned, but has already been discussed waaay back. Decisions had been made before this thread was made really. Maybe one day, but not in the near future by any means.
-
Surely if you have this you're only going to be able to detect where they are if you conenct to the user?
-
I'll ensure Sidetrack (the owner of the hub) is notified of this situation, I'm sure he'll fix it in no time. ;)
-
Thanks for your interest in ApexDC++, I'll give you my opinions on your feature requests. Yes, I agree, I would like to see that back, as an OP it would save a little bit of time often, which adds up. I noticed it earlier, and then realise that it'd use my CPU, but that's probably a non-issue really, and if it is.... I'd rather have a setting. I liked the old way. Sure, I wouldn't mind having that, I'd probably use it sometimes, I wouldn;t mind F5 being the (or another) hotkey to refresh the filelist too, as that's quicker/easier to press than Ctrl+E... and more logical (Internet Browsers ). I don't quite know what you mean because it's late and I don't wanna re-read multiple times until I do, but I'll probably udnerstand when i re-read this thread tomorrow. However, I would like to note here that I would like to ahve the option maybe for it to take away the prefix at the beginning when doing prefix completion... Normally when I'm going to mention someone's name, the prefix does not need to be included too, I'm sure I've seen clients that do this. Sure, but I wouldn't put it as a top priority. Maybe instead of random it could jsut rotate through the options you give it, I cna imagine that would be simpler, and perhaps more useful to some. As for the multipleline thing, if Crise can do it fairly quickly and there's some demand for it, then there's no reason not to do it. Crise is already doing a lot however though, and I'm sure all these relatively small things add up to be the biggest thing of all to code, and there's also some pretty major features which will be worked on for the client too I would think. So basically you want to be able to set the temp-file location of files too? I can see the advantage of this, but not too sure how you would change the GUI to make use of this... If someone can think of a good way to put this into the GUI, and Crise is willing to implement it and has time and it's fiarly easy.... then sure. the problem is, as previously mentioned, all these possibly simple things add up, and some of them probably won't be as simple as expected. If this is in the client you are using now... can you explain how it is implemented into the GUI? As for LUA scripting.... yes I'd like that, especially in the OP clint, but I'm not too sure how easy this is? ...Any modern clients that include this that you know of? Basically, if I personally don't want the reture.... then it's an "if Crise has time" thing. I'm not qualified to say how easy these features are to implement or code or whatever, hopefully Crise can answer that kind of stuff. I hope you enjoy ApexDC++ and use it in future, Greg
