maybe just me but this discussion is getting offtopic ... i understand it is possible and maybe smarter to run apexdc as a daemon and all that, IF it is either kept transparent (hidden from noobs as not to make them more confused) and having everything working automaticly without extra configuration, using apexdc by connecting remotely to the "service" could be really sweet (running a daemon on a linux server and dling silly fast ) but im afraid about security implications if that is done, there should atleast be somesort of a limit like only LAN computers can connect to the service or something like that just my thoughts on this topic :)

I WANT those strings to be modifyable, why ? because i know lots of noobs that always ask what the errors they get mean... this one for example: *** A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. for short: Connection Timed out this one: *** Connection closed looks nice , might be "Disconnected" or being able to translate it to icelandic, it is possible to make xp icelandic, therefor translating those strings, BUT nobody (for some reason) wants to have xp in icelandic, but dc sure so please please give us the option to modify those strings i know you can cuz u guys are brilliant edit: can someone make so i can vote made some mess so my vote vanished

rude is fine by me, i never get m$ monny just get it using shady ways
-
explain... whats not that safe ? true, not encrypted passwords and that but still...
-
true, but then the gui will have to "connect" to the service, that "MIGHT" present security and/or complexity issues
-
soo... how to use them ?
-
where is that ? in source or language file ? *checks lang file* oh, well, i asked cuz i remembered someone saying it was not possible or something, thanks ifmn ! no wait, i got the en_example.xml from source and found that line, and those lines there are: <String Name="ConnectionClosed">Connection closed</String> <String Name="ConnectionError">Connection error</String> <String Name="ConnectionTimeout">Connection timeout</String> ConnectionRefused is not in there, and modifying it does not change the line that the client throws out *** A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. should say Connection timeout according to that language file there's somethin' fishy 'bout this p.s. used the en_example.xml from 1 beta2

i am not talking about removing the current strings, i mean the OPTION to modify them.
-
quick question: why not express editions ?
-
how many hubs ARE you trying to use, i'm usually in 7-10 but i have heard of users being in upto 30 i think
-
thats the point with the timer reset, so you know you did something wrong and you have to fix it and then reconnect (or wait if ur still banned) although i think this feature is only for ynhub...
-
reducing priority on apexdc process usually makes it stop bugging other applications
-
how would you search, and chat ?
-
I think Apex'ers should start a Wiki site where users can contribute everything they want about apexdc Making complete guides, directions and all sorts of stuff to make apex easyer for any user what do you think of this idea :D
-
about guides, there isnt a guide saying what EVERY option in settings does, i admit it might take a while to write, but it would be awesome because even i sometimes have problems understanding what wich option does I might take the job of writing some guides for that tho :P

i would support a fixed with font as default... makes it easyer to make an ascii motd :(

Hello, I wanted to ask, not that it is a problem, just how i understand things in here (vista) work. According to what i know, nobody can write into the Program Files folder, not even an application installed in that folder can modify any of its contents without elevation, unless actually taking ownership of the folder, wich "CAN" be risky considering some viruses and that junk So i was thinking, what about all of the xml setting files in the settings folder, i dont own that folder so how are my settings saved... Anyone know where the changed/downloaded files go to ? Do i need to take ownership of the ApexDC++ folder (maybe just settings folder) not an important support request, just asking how stuff works Thanks,

Update 12.4.2007 - Added guarding.p2p to the backup and restore script
-
you should mention that the guarding.p2p should go into the settings directory edit: adding guarding.p2p to my backup script :D
-
Hello, This "might" not be "required" but i think its better to run ApexDC++ this way, otherwise windows uses some temp folders that nobody knows where are and settings might get lost I made a small script that MUST be run elevated that gives you FULL ACCESS to the %SystemDrive%\Program Files\ApexDC++\ Folder Script is only around 55 lines (mostly comments and directions) so here you go (actually only one command that runs ) http://kjarni.cc/l/?l=46 Note: ONLY FOR WINDOWS VISTA ! Please report bugs to this thread :)
-
thank you :D

Okay so i have been hearing about some people losing settings or something, (when updating / closing apex) well i was bored so i made this, those are two .bat scripts that make a backup and restore your apexdc++ settings please note that this script ONLY works if your ApexDC++ client is installed in the default location C:\Program Files\ApexDC++ http://kjarni.cc/l/?l=44 <- the backup program http://kjarni.cc/l/?l=45 <- the restore program Please only use those links, they have counters that let me know how many are using the script Please submit all bugs, errors, suggestions and that kind of stuff into this topic. Admins, if you think those scripts are "evil" open them in notepad and check every command, i am not hiding anything :)
