  1. cannot connect to external ip

I was talking about the "External/WAN IP" field, not the "Bind to interface" one
  2. help apex makes my hd fail

In DCPlusPlus.xml the directories you are sharing are inside the <Share></Share> branch. Delete everything between these tags (but leave themselves there). Of course do it while Apex is not running. Then, on next start, you shouldn't be sharing anything.
  3. cannot connect to external ip

I think I saw this message when I had a LAN IP in my "External/WAN IP" input box but it's just a feeling (it was a long time ago). Otherwise, no idea...
  4. help apex makes my hd fail

To edit the xml file use Windows Notepad or any similar plain text editor.
  5. help apex makes my hd fail

Looks like your hard drive can't stand the high load produced by hashing in ApexDC. You can limit hashing speed in the hashing progress window, try it to see if it helps. Maybe your drive will crash in the near future. Isn't it overheating? Try also to see the S.M.A.R.T. status using a program called SpeedFan (it will show you the temperature too). How old is the HDD, btw?
  6. Well, there is a software which you can use to search in all hubs from a hublist. But the trial version is somewhat limited and full version is not free. You can write your own piece of software for that anyway.
  7. Is there a limitation of number of hubs you can connect to in DC clients? I didn't know that...
  8. Released: ApexDC++ 1.2.1

There was a program back in the old days I was using StrongDC++, called MiniDump (or Dump-something, I can't remember) which you could use to retrieve as much information as possible on client crash (not responding). I don't know if it would be useful?
  9. please help me out

The hub you are conecting to, is not running. Connect to another one, there are thoudands of hubs. You can choose from them by clicking the first icon on the toolbar (the hublist).
  10. Suggested Search Tab buttons new order

Lee - when there will be some users complaining about it in the forum, I will tell you "I told you" :stuart:
  11. Suggested Search Tab buttons new order

Looks good but there should be a checkbox somewhere in the settings to return to the former search pane placement.
  12. FIle List problem

Yes, it has been answered many times. Browse filelist only downloads the contents of root folder and redownloads more information when you ask for them - by opening some subfolder in the filelist. Get file list downloads the whole filelist so no further queries are neccessary.
  13. Disable, Emulation by Default

Sorry. I meant the unofficial one used mainly by some operators in Central Europe.
  14. Upload options

I would say that the users don't change anything and let the client have 1 slot as it is default in most clients. No wonder there are problems with getting a slot on DC.
  15. Integrated help

I guess contextual help - popup bubbles - would suffice. What do you think?
  16. Disable, Emulation by Default

Today's DCGUI (Linux DC client) lets you write anything into your description. So if you want, you can write your own tag there (this is called tag faking). The tag is not part of NMDC protocol specification. But since some time it is used to identify clients (and check for slot count, hub count, connection mode and much more). To keep it backwards-compatible, the tag became a part of user's description in the protocol (hence the name "description tag" in some hubs/clients). Emulation lets you enter hubs which have banned ApexDC++. The reasons are silly - such as segmented downloading or upload limiting capabilities - the hub leaders think Apex is just another fake client and thus ban it along with TRUE fake clients like RSX++ and Zion. But hey, times are changing, it is much better nowadays than some years ago. Faking your tag is NOT okay and you will get banned in most hubs for doing it. Faking the tag means writing your own one - stating that f. ex. you are only in one hub and have 5 slots opened but you are in 20 hubs and have only 1 slot (this will get you into even more hubs). Emulation means changing client identification - the part of the tag where client identification string resides - and it is OK :D
  17. Apex themes

My theme - very eye-friendly. I am sharing it with you again since my last post was lost during the server failure. Mek.dctheme
  18. Fast Reply option

really? why? is it technically impossible?
  19. Fast Reply option

My opinion is - enable fast reply but without the advanced text editing features.
  20. Forums upgraded to IPB 3.0

I believe I found a bug - on clicking the green "+" icon which is under every post, I get a message that action failed - that I have reached my today's quota of positive votes. Looks like the quota is equal to zero :)
  21. Hashing error

Ah, I see. But the file is available through Explorer and Notepad as usual I deleted the file, I didn't need it anyway :)
  22. Hashing error

I am getting this error everytime my filelist updates. The file mentioned does not indeed exist, so why is it trying to hash it? Maybe the path is too deep? I don't know but the files in that folder and subfolders are normally accessible.
  23. Hashing error

I thought of that but then all my 700 GB would need to be hashed again :)
  24. Problem with new version

in the right click menu of users there are two distinct features: "Get file list" and "Browse file list". The first mentioned gets the whole filelist ready for offline browsing. The second one fetches only the root folder and downloads the rest upon request. Just set your default double-click action to "Get file list" in the settings like I did and you should be fine. It has been already discussed here :)
  25. Hi, normally I use the setting "Manual port forwarding" with the TCP and UDP port set to 56000 as those two are the only ones I have open from my provider. But sometimes I need to use these ports in another application (for ex. uTorrent). I have to change the port numbers in the "manual port forwarding" setting and then select the "passive" option. And then everything works in passive mode and the TCP and UDP ports are available for use. If I don't change the port numbers first, the two ports don't get freed. Why doesn't ApexDC use new, random ports, when in passive mode?
