Hiya all. After I upgraded to beta 5, I can connect to hubs and search fine, but when I try to download, the progress bar (and everything in that bottom pane, actually) blinks rapidly in and out. It seems like it's making a connection for a half a second, but then I think it disconnects. I'm on passive, and nothing has been changed (except the upgrade). Any ideas? Thanx in advance! T

Cool beans, thanx for the info. Hopefully it'll get fixed in SP1, it's a bit of a pain in the neck to keep shutting it off and rebooting, although I could probs just leave it off.

Zlob - lol...I am SO sorry!! Of course, a huge THANK YOU to you for all the help! Both you guys have been incredibly helpful and have got me back up and running and I can't possibly thank you both enough. You guys rule the school! crise - Cool, thanx for the info.

SWEET MOTHER!! It was UAC after all! Satan, you my friend are a genius...I turned UAC off, rebooted, loaded up Apex and sure enough, I was downloading like it was Napster's heyday again! I realize I should just shut the hell up and be happy about it, but is there any way around shutting UAC off to use beta 5? I may be the only one on the planet, but I like having UAC on. What about if I uninstall B5, then reinstall with UAC off, then turn UAC back on...think that will work? I wonder what it was about B5 and UAC that caused the issue? Thanx a bunch!

I don't think so, wouldn't that pop something up instead of wrecking stuff from within Apex? Also, remember I had beta 4 working fine on vista. I've been trying to get to the TGO hub but I've been getting redirected. And I'm not downloading to prog files, it's a seperate folder somewhere else.

No, not yet, but I'm going to check there tomorrow and see what I can do. I'd hate to go back to one of the other progs, I really like Apex.

Yes, you did say that, sorry, my mistake. Tried the rebind, still no go. As far as security software, just Windows Live OneCare, same as I had with beta 4. But I don't think that's the prob, because I shut that down to see if that was it, and I got the same results. i have let it run for about 10 mins, but I'll try longer, (like an hour as was suggested) and see what that does. I've been using apex for a few years, and DC++ before that, and I've never seen this problem before, crazy stuff!

satan/zlo - Oh nonono...it's not with just one user, that I could figure out and handle myself. This is on numerous hubs/users. I connect to about 15 different hubs, and when I do a search for a certain artist's mp3s, I'll highlight ten or so from ten different users on several different hubs, and they'll all do it. I will try the retyping thing, but I'm more thinking it was something that zlo said a few posts back, that it seems like the client isn't getting the tth info. Has anyone else reported something similar, either on beta 5 or an earlier version? Thanx again for the help, you guys rock!

Not sure what you meant by rebind, so I tried changing the bind addy to the other one that was in there (192...), but that didn't work. I tried several different ways, changing it then restarting apex, changing it then trying to download, etc., still no go. The weird thing is, I can download on DC++, and I think I tried Strong DC yesterday too, but not Apex., which leads me to think it's something in the update that's causing this. I'm on Vista (home premium), and I've had no other probs with beta 4 or any other dowloading progs. This one's a toughie! :)

Still same issue taking place. I uninstalled, deleted apex stuff from the registry, cleaned the reg, rebooted, reinstalled beta 5, and I'm still getting the same thing. Anyone ever see this before? Just to recap: I can connect to hubs and search fine, but when I try to download, the progress bar (and everything in that bottom pane, actually) blinks rapidly in and out. It seems like it's making a connection for a half a second, but then I think it disconnects, and it keeps doing this over and over. I'm on passive (couldn't seem to get active to work), and nothing has been changed. Beta 4 worked just fine with these exact settings a couple days ago. Thanx in advance!

I've read it but never tried to actually do it, I'll play around with it tomorrow and see what happens. Thanx again!

I'm way too paranoid to let anyone into my machine  , but thanx for the offer. I think I'm going to try just uninstalling, reboot, then reinstalling, see if that works. I'm thinking something in the update went bad, maybe if I start fresh it'll clear it up. If you think of anything else, please let me know. Thanx!

No, I left it on for about 10 minutes and same thing. Download speed is 0, time remaining is 0, and I get a Download Finished, Idle message that comes and goes rapidly.

Hiya all! I've had this problem for a while now, first on XP then on Vista. I thought it might be something in the OS but it continued after a new HD and Vista. Basically, I get totally kicked offline, so that the only fix is to unplug the modem for a few secs. This can happen after 10 minutes or after 8 hours, or anywhere in between, it's different each time. I'm usually conected to about 15 hubs, I can DL fine with mirc, but not with Apex. I'm on a wired connection, with a netgear router. I'm using passive mode, not sure if that's involved or not. Solid comp, 3.0ghz, 1GB mem, onboard nic. My other problem is sometimes when using Apex, my webpages will slow to a crawl. Any ideas? Thanx in advance!

Cool, thanx for the tip (and the help), I'll check out that hub and see what I can find. As for Vista, Apex seems to run smooth as silk on it, I've tried various features and haven't run into a problem yet. As a matter of fact, other than three things (that I knew in advance wouldn't) not working yet, I'm totally in love with Vista.

I thought that too, that software shouldn't be able to do it alone. I don't do any online gaming, and have no probs with anything else (webpages with lots of images, DLing from a site, file transfers from mirc are perfect, etc.). Also, I tried going active, and it worked fine the first time, but the next time it hung on 'Connecting' for the downloads. I tweaked the various settings (in Apex and my router) in various combinations to no avail. As for the virus, I kinda doubt that too, a brand new install of Vista on a brand new HD ruled that out for me, also the fact that it's only Apex that disables the connection. This one's a tough one! :)

Yeah, I've wanted to try active for some time now, but just never got around to playing with it (laziness). On this last go round I did try the Send Garbage boxes, to no avail. The thing that really gets me is, how can software phisically kick me offline like that...I've never heard of that before. I've been booted from hubs in DC, chats (yahoo), mirc, lost web pages, the usual stuff like that, but never to the point of totally losing my internet connection. Could it be that a person I'm DLing from, or maybe uploading to, is somehow causing it?

If I remember correctly, the reason I went with Apex was because DC++ was doing the same thing (and with a different router, so I sort of ruled out a router issue). As far as other p2p, I tried utorrent and I noticed a slowdown in browsing, but I didn't test it long enough to see if it kicked me offline. I haven't tried active mode yet, but could active/passive mode be responsible for complete kickoff?
