  1. I agree auto update should be able to be readily disabled by the user, ApexDC then having no reason to phone home.

I use ApexDC only on an internal network, unmetered by my ISP, and strongly prefer ApexDC accesses no addresses outside this private range.

I enforce this via my PC firewall, which does prevent ApexDC from phoning home atm.

Grab the source and compile your own version.

  2. I could get those figures and I am pretty sure your going to get the same reply , this is not just me , we have all talked about the increase, it ain't no big thing, it just is.....It has been my experience after 7 or 8 years of hosting a hub, that very few users even worry or look at client stats, unless something fails.

Is your hub ADC or NMDC?

  3. I just recently started using ApexDC++. Great program! However, some of my downloads get stuck, pending back and forth in percentage. For example, one of the files downloaded fine until 49,5%, then it started go backwards and deceeded to 49,0 before climbing up again only to fall even further down. This seems really odd. Any thoughts? The speed is a constant 1000 KB/s but the file NEVER finishes.

How many people are you downloading off? Try just the one for now.

  4. We have just upgraded the forums to IPB 3.1. There's a few changes such as social integration, new search and performance should be better.

Report any problems you've seen and we will try and resolve them.

  5. Today we announce a maintenance update to our stable branch. It includes important fixes from DC++ and StrongDC++, with a few fixes of our own. We have also tweaked the behaviour of the update check to allow people more freedom to upgrade. If you select "Later" in the update check it will not remind for another three days. Plugins used for 1.3.2 should run on 1.3.3.

We have had a decent amount of applicants for our listed jobs, but we're still looking for help porting to Linux.

  6. <br>hope this applies to future versions of apex also so u dont stress him<br>
We will continue to provide security updates and force them like we currently do. Outsourcing our Linux port project to others will not stress Crise out.

Why not invest into ADCH++ GUI development so we can get people off NMDC?

  7. ...therefore your example with GNOME is wrong. In any case, I want to offer assistance with porting ApexDC++ on Linux.

I'm liking the productiveness of this topic, let's not forget we are all wanting the same thing. We are discussing a stage that yes is extremely important, but first we must get the core compiling before we think about UI.

Now if any of you can offer that assistance, we can negotiate your role and final pay.

  8. I've cleaned some stuff. Everybody needs to keep their comments clean, otherwise they take it to PM.

I never made this decision by myself. Crise has called the shots on this, I've only provided the revenue stream. This is not another mod, we're making it compilable across all platforms. Read what Crise has said above.

My point about investing into the hubsoft development is completely valid, thanks for ignoring it. However, I have never come to your project and told you what to do.

If you don't want "to hear it", logout and return to dcdev.

  9. doesnt hurt to read once in a while and be more attuned to the actual needs of DC lets hope this clear message got thru atleast

The market was pretty saturated when we originally launched PWDC++ - look where we are now. We're beating DC++ and StrongDC++ on downloads right now. Anything is possible. You guys invented ADC, why don't you invest and finish it off? You seem too busy telling us how badly we're managing our own project.

While the plugin system is an excellent idea and you might get mod authors submitting plugins, they aren't going to ditch their project to come develop for a DC++ plugin. :(

We aren't basing on "another mod" for this, it's coming straight from us.

  10. Substantial/Negotiable... hmm? Is there a range in mind?

Also, MinGW is primarily for compiling Linux apps in Windows, is that what you had in mind? Are you trying to drop VS?

I've spoke to Nas, probably best we discuss this on IM or PM when you're next on.

  11. Due to the recent OpenCandy integration and our Google AdSense partnership, we are now in a position to offer paid work. We want to provide ApexDC++ 2.0 across multiple platforms and have a brand new website to show for it.

We have created a jobs page with a summary of roles that are needed - all of which are paid. This ranges from programmers to help port to Linux/Mac, website design work, graphics for the program and website. The priority here is the Linux port, but we're also wanting graphics for 2.0.

Check out the available jobs and see if you can help us. What could be better than having simultaneous releases across Windows, Linux and Mac? Know a Linux/Mac developer? Let us know on the forums or through our email. If you're a programmer and want to negotiate a price, please email us aswell.

  12. Feature Request:

An added tag in the main settings file that would allow for a custom URL to update the client from. Ex. <customUpdateURL>http://www.hubwebsite.ca</customUpdateURL>. I run a hub for a university and we have a customized version of ApexDC++ that we distribute to all the students. Every time that ApexDC++ updates, some people install the stock version of ApexDC++ from http://www.apexdc.net/download and mess their installs up. It would be amazing if I could specify the URL (the university hub site) which people could update their client with. Is this a feasible option?

May I ask what modifications you have made, or are they just cosmetic?

  13. hi... was forced to do the upgrade from 1.3.1 64b to 1.3.2 64b on windows 7.... 1.3.1 allways worked fine .. now after the upgrade when apex starts the settings window pop's open and them just freezes... and says not responding ,,,, any Ideas ??? stumped here ...thanks

Did you install the new version in the same folder as the old? The settings page should not open if you have upgraded correctly.

  14. Nice release guys, the crash related to /ratio is gone :) Question: Is the auto-updater turned back on yet?

We're still looking for a feasible way of doing this. In the mean time, we will continue to tweak the traditional update check behaviour.
