True it is technically impossible in that sense, but it isn't impossible to allow searching by text through DHT nodes.
So it would search through hubs a node is connected to. That would be cool for public hubs, but needs to be explained before the user enables. :)

But try using this new feature in Australia and you will see that uploading a file now takes twice as long as it use to in the past.
Welcome Mutant
Why does it take twice as long? If you are uploading to more than one user, it will help slow connections because you are giving random unique chunks to different users. Those users can then upload to each other without you even being connected. If you have a 1GB file to upload, after uploading about 1.1GB to the users they then have all the chunks they need to finish the file between themselves without you connected. This removes the problem of having to upload the 1GB file to User B, then User C, and User D sequentially (totalling 3GB)
Option would only take effect on users requesting chunks off you. Not if you disabled it yourself.
..just because randomization completely breaks that dynamic segment size which has been done in the past to dramatically improve download speed on fast connections. And the more bytes downloaded, the worse it will be.
Dynamic segment size based on speed still works, we have tested it numerous times. It will change though, because it doesn't work efficiently. If a fast user has a large chunk, all other partials users are sat waiting till smaller random chunks are available. It takes longer for the whole swarm to finish the file. We have also prioritised first and last segments for video files for next release, so users can preview and confirm they aren't fake before completing the download.
During our tests we had users on very fast connections... we couldn't max their upload speed. Nobody reported any drops in download speed towards the end of the file.
We will test this next change before release. I suggest you join in and realise the potential, especially over DHT with SDC <-> Apex users.

There is possible to implement a search option window search like "search over DHT"?
I understand at this point DHT searches automatically based on TTH only files in Download Queue.
It would be nice also to manual search but with keywords in search windows.
Thank you!
Best regards!
Best person to ask would be BM, author of DHT. I guess eventually this might be planned.

Bring on the speed! ApexDC++ 1.3.6 changes the way in which segments are downloaded. The new randomised approach allows for new files to be distributed better across a group of ApexDC++ downloaders. Ultimately, this will provide a better speed over other clients.
Other improvements include a new Plugin API update - so make sure you grab the new plugins - and a minor feature addition.

nope, nothing wrong with them either.
Is this on all hubs?
-
ive done that, it says im sharing 3gb of stuff, but when i join a hub, it says 0b next to my name, i have also downloaded the bit32 which my computer is.
Have you hidden your share by accident?
Go to favourite hubs > Properties of the hub you are in... check the hide share option.
-
Hi,
ive just started using DC++ and ive uploaded my stuff, but when i join a HUB next to my name it still says 0b when i uploaded 3gb.
what is the reason for this and how can i fix it?
The number next to your username represents how much you have shared in your filelist. 0b suggests you are uploading files that you are downloading, but not actually sharing anything back to a hub.
Go to Settings > Sharing and select some folders/files to share.

Thanks. I may get Spybot. The Ultimate Troubleshooter is a legit program. I have used it for many years. I think I located the problem. I started in Safe Mode and then ran The Ultimate Troubleshooter. It showed a process called OTGV1DNWQQ running which was associated with Wjr.exe residing in Appdata/Local/Temp.
I disabled the process and deleted Wjr.exe.
Wbekea, Wbekeb and Wbekec were all in C:\Windows, and all purported to belong to ApexDC++
Being in safe mode I could delete them.
Rebooted and all seems well.
Spybot has deteriorated in recent years but still free, I'd suggest Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Let us know if you're problem returns. It's strange how they associate it with ApexDC++, maybe you downloaded the virus through the program?

Hello,
I have a virus problem which I am trying to sort out. I was attacked earlier today and have removed everything that seems related to the virus except for the presence of some small tasks that reappear. I run a program called 'The Ultimate Trouble Shooter' which lists all Startups and Tasks. It shows various tasks like Wbekea, Wbekeb and Wbekec. The origin of these is given as ApexDC++.
I do not recall ever installing ApexDC++ but perhaps some other software loaded it.
I have great difficulty in deleting Wbekea, Wbekeb and Wbekec.
Can you please confirm whether or not these are valid ApexDC++ programs?
Thanks,
George
The only way ApexDC++ could ever land on your computer is if somebody downloaded and installed it.
I have never heard of the above programs and are not associated with ApexDC++ in anyway. Maybe you downloaded them?
Either way, purchase some decent Anti-Virus and Anti-malware programs and do full scans. Hijackthis is a better tool than "The Ultimate Trouble Shooter".
Good luck. :)

Hey jack, welcome to the forums.
When you install ApexDC++ with our setup file, it'll ask you whether you want to store settings per user account. If that is selected, you need to delete dcppboot.xml from the AppData/ApexDC++ folder under the hidden Users folder.
Let me know if you have anymore problems.

Tried different ports at different times. All forwarded and tested OK but same thing happens.
Please try a hub that uses encryption to see if you can bypass ISP throttling.
They start with adcs://

Hi,
Can anybody explain why my download speeds are slowly deteriorating?
When I get connected to new downloads the speed intially is very good.
Then slowly the speed goes down and eventually the connection is closed.
After a while I am reconnected at good speed but then again speed goes down.
This happens on all my downloads not just only one.
Explanation please?
Hi fyrekrig,
Have you definitely forwarded your ports correctly?

Hello,
I installed Apex this morning, but I have a little problem:
I lunch the program, then check the public hubs, then click on one... It connects to the hub but nothing happens after. I cant see anybody, showing a white page (see the pic attached bellow).
Also, I am connected to my university net, and when I want to check which ports are oppened, it says none of the ports are open. Even the port 80 isnt accessible...
Any idea please?
On a university network I highly doubt you'll be allowed to open up any ports that ApexDC needs.

Hi albireo,
Yes we are still hiring. How much wxwidgets experience have you got? :)

Ok, but is not fair to disable PM over DHT, you must add some feature options-protections in client regarding spamming, maybe some lua scripts, but please dont DISABLE PM, find a solution keeping private message over dht.
If I want to chat with the users over DHT how am I supposed to do that?
Best regards!
In agreement with this, but there needs to be a system to stop spam before allowing it.
-
Possibilities:
- Limit number of characters per message
- Only a limited number of messages per minute
- No weblinks
- reCAPTCHA authorisation before sending a message
-
Just a simple thought: when someone from DHT is leeching you (or vice-versa), some context menu entries should be disabled or removed; for example Send PM, where currently a PM window appears but does not allow sending any messages.
Agreed. I remember Crise saying there was some message code commented out though, which might mean Big Muscle is working on that.
-
I've tried it and it's no difference.
I'm not sure why this is the case then horus22. Maybe wait till our GUI has been completely re-written to wxwidgets and test it. Unless Big Muscle you have some advice? :)
-
Hi horus22,
Are you hashing when ApexDC++ is open?
-
Thanks a bunch
PS - Congrats on the Support promotion.

Fixed this Mek.

I hope this point is basically made by now. Turn off DHT and let the users decide how they will be seen or used by others. This way the client is not making the decisions. If you want to inform more people about DHT, great... just don't force it upon them first.
That's like saying they should go through every setting and set it themselves. It is our responsibility to provide the best default settings for most users. We feel enabling DHT will provide the majority of public hub users with faster downloads, and allow them to collect sources all over the place. This is the true advantage to DHT, and if people don't like that they can disable it. I understand the issue with private hubs and its users, but this is easily monitored and resolved.
I know it works because I've seen it. After 6 days, 65% of users in a private hub have already upgraded to 1.3.5 and followed the "You are not allowed in this hub because DHT is enabled, please disable it by following these steps" message. The user count hasn't dropped either.

Thanks, but I was referring to the objects that are being downloaded marked with the attribute (Status) "User offline"
See the attachment as example
Nice idea. I will move this to feature requests.

Ok, large hub as BM claims. :)
