  1. NO NO NO HELL NO

The basic user cant even master the command there is now adding more will just screw up even more this might be a good thing for a text client to focus on but apex has a GUI and there for shouldn't have more text commands that are unnecessary

no not as a default, this whould help people helping because instead of helping users browsing some setting window, they only have to tell them to run the /command which is in 90% of cases easyer :stuart:

plus i myself would use it to set everything

edit: normal users wouldn't even notice any change in the client ...

    just a bit bigger /help :P

  2. A great idea, would be very useful. I reminds me of mIRC interface. Come to that, perhaps there could be some co-operation between mIRC and Apex developers? If so, I'm sure we'd all be pleased, since mIRC achieved such an excellent flexibility with its interface.

the interface of mIRC is good yes but i doubt they are in any way compatible, the scripting language however rocks and i would also like that into apex :stuart:

  3. I just thought up something of pure brilliance...

what about making a slash command for (maybe almost) ALL settings

    examples

    /set general/nick blah

Response: Nick changed from Cat to blah

    /set connection/incoming/mode 4

Response: Incoming Connection Mode changed from Direct Connection to Passive

    /set sharing/uploadslots 4

Response: Upload slots changed from 2 to 4

    /set sharing/sharedfolders add "Programs" "D:\Share\Programs"

Response: Folder Programs added to share, indexing process started

im quite sure it is useful, it would solve SO many problems and make support SO much easyer !

  4. ApexDC++ Settings Backup

If you want to prevent data loss when trying to upgrade, this is the guide for you. Simply follow the intructions below and you'll be able to backup your ApexDC++ settings and then upgrade without hesitation.

These scripts below will take live backups of your ApexDC++ settings folder, so you have the most up to date backup when upgrading. The restore script should only be launched once you have successfully upgraded to the latest version, so it can import the old settings.

Video of the program in action: [ Watch it here ]

ApexDC++ Settings Backup: [ Download it here ]

Note: Windows Vista users might need to run this script with elevation for the restoration to work, otherwise you can take ownership of the ApexDC++ folder (if you know how to).

If you spot any problems please report them, and I'll be happy to update the script.

The script is open source, written in C# it is released under the MIT License and you are welcome to take the source and make the program better, and if you want the new feature or fix added to the official program just send me a message, and i will think about it :stuart:

  5. Hi, i am just a semi-noob in c# and i like to play around with fun things.

recently i have been playing around with apexdc and a hubserver i am trying to get working but i have no idea how to make a "lock"

i'm using apex's CDM Debug window to see what's going on, but it's not going too well, since i don't even know how to read and understand what the client sends back because it comes in an array :)

is there anyone here that understands C# ?

as far as i understand, to create a lock in C (not C#) i would use

  6. i am working on making this application accept command line commands so it can be scheduled to make backups automatically every x hours, days or weeks :P

i am also working on making the program verify the files somehow and tell you if they haven't changed so you just use the last backup, and that could even work for the scheduled backups aswell (not make backup if last was the same ... ;)

    well any ideas ?

  7. i have an idea, during installation create a persistent registry entry for the magnet handler, and then set the security of the ApexDC++ folder to full access (since the installer is already elevated) this should solve the problems i have read about here...

if changing "administrative" options in apex during runtime, ask for admin then, i have seen some apps do that, which i can´t remember :/

  8. and i don't get it, why is it so important to keep the exe small ?

why not just not include the file inside of the exe, only in files, and if the files don't exist, revert to no-icons mode :(

  9. Hi,

I was wondering in the story about Virtual lan's

I am running a test hub on a virtual lan, it is completely unaccessible unless the user has logmein hamachi application, and every communication is encrypted and untraceable...

i was wondering if a virtual lan system could be created inside of dc++ applications...

im sorry if i'm very wayyy off but this virtual lan stuff rocks so much !

    example:

this user is NOT on my local are network, he is in my virtual lan

    http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/898/9k8b363tmphz8.jpg

A virtual LAN, commonly known as a VLAN, is a group of hosts with a common set of requirements that communicate as if they were attached to the same wire, regardless of their physical location. A VLAN has the same attributes as a physical LAN, but it allows for end stations to be grouped together even if they are not located on the same LAN segment. Network reconfiguration can be done through software instead of physically relocating devices. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_LAN

  10. i have noticed that multiple times, i am unable to resolve apexdc.net or any of the subdomains...

i am using opendns.com to resolve and they have never failed me so i ask, are you doing something wrong or is opendns ?

This is a problem because if apexdc.net is not connectible i cannot open my apex cuz itz a "special version" (becomes DISABLED)

  11. i think default should be 10 but an OPTION to go lower (stop blocking my down clicks)

    OPTIONS are good (almost?) ALWAYS

    too many options make clutter...

hubowners can kick/ignore users that search too fast

currently all my hubs have the time between searches at 1 sec, i tried having it 10 but there was no lag increase, mainly because i run small hubs 200-300 users.

Nobody has complained about the that limit on the hub but users using apex have complained a bit :)
