tried peerweb again today, and the public hubs message didn't come up. i connected to same hubs as last time the client could't figure out what country people downloading from me were from. i closed hubs and opened them in ldc, and downloaders country was shown. I think I'll be discontinuing sababa. i have to keep checking that the ip is correct. M

Hi I wasn't sure if you were responding to my bit or somebody elses. Well i do know people who stick with older clients. But I'm the kind of guy who likes to try out new things. I have tried Pererweb, but as i mentioned in another post, i get the same problem as i got with Strongdc 9 and ten; some private hubs will show up for a millisecond {approx } as public hubs. so i get messages like "please close the public hub" So I'm sticking to lwdc and sababa at the moment. There doesn't seem to be much difference between lwc and peerweb. yes, i think when i did try pwdc, there were two hubs in favourites. Was one of them techgeeks. But it was a public hub, and I stick to private mostly As for knowing the same people in Ft, well the only two rooms in my favs are the otr one and the audiobook one. Of course i have visited others. As for computer support, maybe you can tell me why my moniter goes blank intermittently. and how i can program manager to run on a 64 bit machine. M

1. Would it be possible to have a facility saying which clients it would not be compatible with. So if i saw someobody not being able to connect to me, i could see it's because that person is using version 3.06 or whatever. Actually is it possible to make the client compatible with all clients. I'd expect not. but thought I'd ask anyhow. M

Hi, I'm glad this will be looked into. Thank you Lee, for suggesting it. The only way it can be done at the moment is if you remember to add to favourites whoever you are downloading from. M

Hi. I'm at a loss as to when you or whoever would know when i would be looking at the encoding of a file. Maybe I didn't explain my request well enough. Let's say I look for a file. in results you get such things as "type" slot" "size" etc etc. I'm looking for an addional result called something like "encoding" Would it be used. I think so. I know that there are people who wouild prefer to download the same song at 320 kbs than at 128 kbs. No, I'm not one of them. I'd go for the lower one. M

Hi, For a long time I was wary of trying any kind of filesharing program. Then someone mentioned Bearshare to me. Well i thought if they are happy use a p2p program, I'll give it a go. I used it for a short while, but got fed up with the ads. In the meantime and or afterwards, I tried other clients including Limewire. But the first one I stuck with for a long time was either soulseek, or Filetopia. I loved Soulseek because it had lots of music, i wanted to get. What I didn't like about it was some of the ignorant messages, people had. But eventually I had to give it up, because it kept freezing on me. Around the same time ( i think) I tried Filetopia. I guess it was the phrase "public key encryption" that attracted me to it. I am a fan of oldtime radio, and other kinds of radio such as bbc plays. I found a lot of oldtime radio on Filetopia, but not much bbc stuff. One day, I mentioned this to a guy (think it was a guy on Soulseek, and he told me about Direct connect. Actually I had tried Direct connect before, but couldn't figure out how to set it up. Anyway this person helped me set up, and also told me of at least one private hub where bbc plays could be got. Later i brought some people from Ft over to Dc. We decided the difference was that Ft was better for chatting, but Dc was better for downloading. But that was before I discovered, that it really depends what room you are in on Ft, and what hub you are in on Dc. I still connect to ft, now and again. But I've found that the chats in thr rooms I have in favourites are few and far between. I stick to private hubs on Dc , and have around 30 in my list. But, no i don't have them all open all the time. it's usually a maxium of six. sometimes i can't find a file, in private hubs, so i'll try public, or i'll try another client. my biggest gripe about Dc is that all clients are not compatible with each other. Overall though, i think it's the best. M

Hi Well i tried peerweb again. This time i watched the status bar. What happens is that 1 will appear in the (how do i explain this) for a split second I can see 1/4/1 or something like that but then it will change to 0/4/1 but what happens is that some of the hubs connect before the 1 changes to a 0. so it sees the 1 instead of the 0 now when i use ldc, before entering the hubs, it refreshes my file list. so the hubs don't open as quickly. All the hubs see each other as private. M

Hello again. I connect to about six private hubs automatically on startup. It's very rarely, I visit public hubs One or two hubs sees another hub or hubs as public, even though they are all private hubs. Now i guess this problem first started around strongdc 9. It also happenned in 10. I have tried different versions of 9 and 10. So i can't remember which versions of 9 and 10. Well I do know that i had the problem with the final version of 10. I have tried different things., such as having less hubs open automatically on startup, and don't have any hubs open at startup at all. But eventually I get the same message. It's always from the same hubs. Actually if i recall correctly, one time i had only one hub open, and it was seeing itself as public. But it was only showing as public in my tag. Have I had this problem with other clients? Yes, in DCpro, and perhaps others too Right now I'm veering between sababa and LDc and I have had no problems with either. Well except for people not being able to connect to me, or me to them, because of incompatible clients. ie, usually too old a version of dc++. This happenens with Strong too. But I still look forward to trying out the first version of ApexDc M

Well actually i had done that after the first attempt. it made no difference. oh, and another thing i didn't like was when using now playing in winamp option, it advertised the fact that you were using peerweb. Anyway i've just given it a second chance. It gives me the same problem as I had with strongdc. I get messages from some hubs telling me that I am in public when I'm not I'm hoping this will be ironed out in apex M
