  1. Well, I am using Apex for quite some years but this hasn't happened to me (yet)...

But maybe the Favorites.xml could be backed up like Queue.xml ?

then you're lucky. it happened to me 2 times last month and it's hard to get adresses of private hubs again.

and I am to lazy to backup favorites.xml EVERY TIME I run apex. And I don't think this should be neccesary on a client that advertises itself as "The Pinnacle of file sharing" (allthough it is hated by most private hubs, I like the look and feel as well as functionality of ApexDC)

A simple "favorites.bak" in the "settings" folder on run/exit would do the trick.

  2. Every time there is a power cut or the PC freezes and needs a hard reset while ApexDC is running the favorites.xml file gets corrupted.

Is there a way to make Apex backup this as well as other critical files at every startup / shutdown or whatever,

A "restore" command may also be good.

  3. I would like to see already shared folders in another color, not just the files. who has the time to go through 100s and 1000s of folders and look at the files in each one.

This way I can just skip folders I already have.

I have seen this option in other clients and I miss it in this one.

In other clients it works like this: If all files from a specific folder are shared it is a bright gray colour. If not all files from a specific folder are shared it is a darkey gray colour.

  4. there is a topic on this forum describing on how to use DynDns to keep your IP steady.

not much complicated, but works just fine.

i've been using it for months now

  5. a bit tricky to explain...

here is what happens... assume 1 user is on 3 same hubs as you are

now when he tries to grab your list, apex seems to open additional upload slots and in the end you have the same user downloading your filelist from three different hubs and there is nothing you can do about it.

tried to close two of those connections, no result.

same sh-- after a few second.

now, is there no way to prevent these sort of things hapening?

can't apex detect that it is uploading 3 filelists to the same IP and close all but one connection automatically?

speaking of small upload slots... why is the minimum set to "3".

  6. You search for alternates dozens of times and nothing happens.

Only 1 user has the album / TV series you want and he will not grant you a slot or the speed is extremely slow...

Automatic search for alternates gets you only 1 or 2 tracks downloaded.

    Here is what to do:

    1. make sure you have checked "Automatically search for TTH alternates every X minutes" in queue settings

    2. in Advanced settings select "Don't delete file lists when exiting"

    3. Enable DHT in advanced settings.

Get in a hub with A LOT of users.

Leave dc to do its job with TTH alternates. It should find at least one.

Open finished downloads and look if a track from the album you want has been downloaded.

Get that users file list and in the file menu select "Match downloaded lists".

That should do the trick (works for me :))

  7. something for us with poor upload speeds.

it would be great to have a (global) feature for upload slot speed

most hubs require you to have 3+ slots open.

for example: total upload speed is around 50 k/s / 5 slots open / 10 k/s per slot

in my case it is often that I have 1 user downloading from me @ 20-40 k/s and the other slots are stuck at 1-5 k/s.

i would like to balance things out a bit.

  8. Most hubs will just ignore you if you do that, so what's the point ?

exactly... if you ask me: this feature kicks ass because most hubs have a predefined search interval (10s - a couple of minutes)

only thing you will get by disabling this is a message from the hub saying "minimum search interval is ?? s"

helps really when you search for alternates.

(if you like) you can do a 100 of searches by TTH and if you got your interval right you will never get the above mentioned message and most important: you will find what you are looking for.
