Need help upgrading

I am running dc+ on my old xp machine.
The software starts but then will not let me access anything saying i need to upgrade.
I do not remember what my settings are, and i lose my login/passwords, i will not be able get on again.
I would appreciate any help that would ensure upgrading would not cost me my data
