  1. hi,

if it's not what Mek written ( about permissions under vista ), then try to check if the files under <apex folders>\Settings folder named "Favorites.xml" and "Queue.xml" do exist after quitting apex ( no process is running at all named apexdc.exe ) or there are only "Favorites.bak" and "Queue.bak"

if there are no .xml files, but the .bak files only, then Apex will create those default ( and empty ) files for you and that's why you won't see your favorite hubs' list and the download queue ----> which would mean that apex couldn't shutdown properly last time it was running and couldn't write back the .xml files to the disk ( to load at the next startup )

there was a little batch file written for it by Aztek if i recall it right ... will check and link here if i'll see it again

Edit: yes, it was Aztek last November, who documented it on the forum: http://forums.apexdc.net/index.php?showtopic=3034 )

  2. Actualy this is whole description of my problem. Apex 1.1.0 is simply crashing for no obvious reason on xp64 bit. There is no firewall except windows (turned off) logs on normaly and after some time just turns it self off. Logs on to hubs and to other users for download, search works.

    Help

almost all programs crashedon my x64 xp before ( apex usually crashed every time i switched between tabs ), but since i've updated my video driver ( nvidia ) to the current one they share on their webpage everything is stabile .... try this if you have nvidia video card(s)

just an idea, but a log would be useful to find out what's the cause

  3. My internet (Comcast) is really slow when im uploading in Apex. How can i make it so it won't use as much bandwidth?

don't limit it to a slower value, but use sg to priorize/optimize your programs using the connection ( cfos for example, but you can google the words "netshape" "priorize net" etc ... )

  4. It works on the downstairs Laptop ok, however, it ****s itself on my main pc, 'cFos cannot function due to too many open connections', as a result my entire connection grinds to a halt :(

"funny" ... i never meet with that error  are you running 32 or 64 bit version? ... as on my pc ... the 64 bit versions of stuff sometimes just simply make the whole thing run into the "will never appear" :stuart: bluescreen and restart it .. if you're using the 64 bit cfos, maybe it would worth a try to check the x86 version ... but that's already not apex :fear:

  5. i would rather suggest traffic shaping instead of "speed control per domain" .. as it would be against the dc spirit ( although i had the same problem while been on univ )

try cfos ( or cfosspeed ) to shape your connection speeds .. it really helps -_-

  6. are you talking agout sg like this?

    http://forums.apexdc.net/index.php?showtop...amp;#entry12776

when getting a string ( not "script" s written in that topic's first note ... hehe, please forgive me, been spent too many hours-days-weeks with stupid and stupid scripts, and i'm even having them in my dreams ;):P ) like containing the part "ban" "hammer" then look for another part ( getstring() or sg, cannot remember which was it :) ) like "xx:yy" or "xxh" "xh" "x hours" ( where x and y are numerci characters ) and use a built in delay in the reconnect automation which adds like xx*60*60 + yy*60 time until the next reconnect trigger .... i would definetally love it, as ... i have a computer again ^_^ ... but sometimes cannot even have a look at them for days ... and if anything could go wrong ... it may save longlong hours or waiting for both me, and for those who try to download from me ... excuse me .. i meant US -_-

  7. i used to have a lua script to enable regged users "giving ban points" to someone who's messing up things .... and if someone gets the 3 or 5 "ban points" ... gets banned :) ... believe me, these ppl will give up soon if they'll have to ask an op to give a regged nick again and again .... or if you set your hub to automatically give timebans to the flooders or those who use unwanted words or expressions ( :) ) these ppl will get soon to the point when all their nicks will gonna be banned and will look for some fun elsewhere ( hopefully outside in the nature :) )

  8. Tried Kaspersky once, made my comp freeze up when updating... A bit annoying since it updates at startup, or did for me, when the load on the cpu is the biggest... Took 15-20 minutes to get control of the comp enough to deactivate the update...

yeah, i remember that ... should have been kaspersky anti-virus 4.5 or sg :) ... things have changed since .. it can be set well to work smooth with other applications as well :)

or if you don't want to spend money on it .... try grisoft's antivirus + some firewall :)

    http://free.grisoft.com/

  9. yes, the "regonly" ting will be the solution ... you don't really need to care about "is this the same guy" ... as at one point he'll have enough of the fuzz to get a reg again :D

or be evil and tell the isp there is someone who's playing pirate from that ip :P

  10. TBH, I would be more inclined to believe ports are not being forwarded correctly than to say that your router is 'being naughty'.

A lot of people seem to find port forwarding confusing, god knows why, considering it's simple as.

of course it's very simple to port forward in routers, but .... my old ovislink router was realy "naughty" :P

  11. Uhm..yes, it's already there....just add hub to favorites then select Emulate DC++ in this hub from favs.

yes, already there, but since version 0.4.0 i couldn't get into any of abc network's hubs, as they all spot that i'm just emulating dc++ ... aready told about this long long time agon on the hub, and maybe on this forum as well ;)

  12. What sort of throughput you get Aztek when your hashing from a network drive?

I can only manage 800Kb/s which seems very slow considering the 'weakest link' PC is running at 36Mbps.

Also, I have found a work-around for this problem.

If I disconnect from the internet obviously apex is no longer able to hash from the downstairs PC, I can quit then and it closes np.

sometimes it happens here as well, but not with hashing from netword drive ... simply when i quit apex, it still runs for some time (or some hours :) ) ... eating up CPU and memory ... slowing down whole machine .... but i simply ban it from the network (by my firewall) ..... and it'll quit in a few minutes, and free up my resources.

dunno what causes it, but this "removing apex from network access list" usually gets it back anytime from this static lifestyle :) ... so if it just doesn't give any reaction wether anything is done .... doesn't come up from tray .... i simply don't let it access the network, and resources usage will be minimzed ... down to 1-2 % cpu and some megabytes of memory .... and it'll be back to normal ... okay, we loose our slots, and others loose us, but at least no freeze or no need to close from taskman.

so what i tried to say is that you're not the only one doing this ;) :)

  13. as long as i know ... searches are ongoing always (automatic searches for alternates in your download queue) ... and i think that those searches' results are filtered out, as not matching the criteria in that search window.

not sure for 100%, but should be sg like this.

  14. well, the easiest way is always to delete the current and let dc to recreate the whole thing :) .... (i guess if you have sata drives and probably a strong computer, it won't take days to rehash everything) ... or you can wait until someone who understands your problem better than me sais a one step too easy solution :)

but anyway ... worth a try checking if there are any same named folders in your share (either virtual or physical)
